After a fair bit of destruction. A lot of that seems to happen.
Taking away to old floor revealed a lot of rotten joists – due to close proximity of the (still) damp wall. They were also resting on some 1.5×2 steel angle which was just not up to what was needed for the future, and that was being held up with well rotted ‘rawl bolts’.
All that got taken down, binned and new steel I beams placed on proper heavy duty columns. The I beams are somewhat larger than needed, and could probaly be used to hold up something rather larger, but hey – its me. They would also act as load bearing for two rather large wooden beams, that would have further joists hung off them to make the loft void floor.
The following images should give some clue as to what all that means.
Now build that loo and get the stairs in.
That being done, and access now available to the loft void, where work could begin on sorting this rather dirty, messy load of foundry dust out. Oh – deep joy.
