So, How Did Those Acoustics Turn Out Then?

Actually, rather well I think – at least I am happy with how a few tons of hessian covered rockwool has made the room sound..

It was always my intent to start the next page of this blog with measurements of the room with all the acoustic treatment finalised and in place, but it has actually meant finishing the room in the process.

I am, of course, joking there, as there will always be just another bit of trim to add here, and another bass trap to add there (well, actually a pair in this case, but measurements were made somewhat ‘Heath Robinson’ in this instance)

To look at the ‘before V after’ I have put a couple of graphs together, for those who actually get what they mean. For me it a graphical representation of what I am now hearing / listening to in the room.

Before full treatment, but with some :-

And this morning :-

The difference is quite marked. From 200 Hz up in both the response is quite flat, but the first one shows 20 – 200Hz as being (expectedly) rather lumpy.

The second set shows this in more detail, before and after once more.

Walking into the room in a morning is very nice. The sound isolation from outside / next door makes it ‘library’ quiet, but (vitally important) not dead.

Just a very quiet, calm, and with the lighting now in place, rather nice environment in which to work / listen to music.

The story of this final phase can now be the following blog entry..
