Carrying on from the last post, getting the downstairs finished, including the new machine shop, was no small objective.
The floor alone with all its issues was one thing, but then there was the building of a wall between workshop and warehouse (noise/dust etc) that would also help support the floor of DR3.
Then there is the small issue of the wall to the outside, which for the best part is below road level, so damp and suffers from water getting through fom being below ground level, making all the services fit and work – drain from AC in DR3, drain from MHVC in loft, electrics to and from DR3 for heating, two distribution boards, plus the complete wiring for the machine shop ring mains and individual machines.
Then, make it all look half decent.
Then, get all the machines down, fit them, prep & set them up..
While the images will tell the story, one thing it will not show is the realisation, that, having made all the columns to add joists to support the floor of DR3, exactly 5mm below where the steels would sit, the floor of DR3 had actually bowed some 8mm in the centre over time, for whatever reason.
Getting that rised so the new beams would fit would be one of the final acts that the then forklift (circa 1955) would undertake. The strain basically killed it..
