As I have mentioned before, this unit just likes being the way it is, and resists every single thing it can in making it into a nicer place, a warmer place, and somewhere nice to work in.
We needed a new downstairs toilet and wash area, the old being just a little too ‘workmanlike’ to have visitors use.
The main steel entrance door has seen way better days, and was not as secure as I would like, and the double doors for the warehouse area had gone through the ‘shrink and expand’ thing with rain, frost, direct sun, and whatever else could be thrown at them one too many times, and were failing badly.
The floor to the warehouse area had had its share of steels removed, but certain areas remained very hollow, turned out, the builder had found old pipes of whatever flavour in a gully. Filled with very bad concrete, and the entire gulley was just not stable enough to lay a new floor on. 10 minutes with the demolition hammer and I had a nice 14″ wide byt 12″ deep trench to fill with new concrete.
Four high density concrete block pillars needed to be built to support the new door frames, and a wall built to support the new ASHP (Air Source Heat Pump) HVAC heating and cooling appliance. So still plenty to plough on with before I could finally get upstairs.
That all got sorted, as images below, with now just one small area of floor paint to finish off.
There is always ‘something’..
I think the general idea for downstairs is now done – next up, get all those machines and stuff downstairs, fit them, and then we can begin making the new room, from soundproofing to acoustics to making bass traps and filling it with nice things 🙂
